The 5 Minute Face - by Carmindy

Carmindy was born to do Makeup! At 15 she had her dad build a Hollywood style makeup mirror and she painted for friends, family and neighbors! I also enjoyed doing makeup at a young age but I don't think I was quite as passionate about it as Carmindy. She's as passionate about makeup as I am about hands and feet!

Every picture in this book is beautiful! She is passionate about showing us all how to highlight our natural beauty! This book is full of great tips and she explains in detail how to create fabulous looks no matter what age or skin tone you are.

My copy is from the library but I'll be getting from Amazon soon!

My Lancome Sweet Caprice Lip gloss

This lip gloss never fails to make me feel beautiful! It's a perfect pale pink shade! It has a shimery smooth texture and it smells amazing!

I cringed when I bought it as it was around $30! I don't generally go too crazy cosmetic shopping but we all need to splurge on ourselves sometimes! I had my heart set on getting the bonus that day so I went a little nuts! I LOVE bonuses.. I don't know anyone who doesn't!

Lancome Sweet Caprice Lip Gloss - A little bit of Luxury that is with me at all times!

Microdermabrasion Ordeal

Today I was going to let you know how my microdermabrasion appointment went..... but it never happened! I drove all the way to Canmore (45 minutes) for my appointment and they had cancelled me! The girl was sick I guess.

Appointments frustrate me to no end! They're running late, I'm lost, traffic is bad, computers crash, people get sick and on... and on... and on! That is why if I can do a beauty treatment at home I will.

I do think I will reschedule somewhere a bit closer! I would like feel the difference between "the machines" and the home treatments that are available.

I can tell you that I like the Olay Regenerist thermal skin polisher! I was feeling ripped off this morning. I had a Youthful Essence Tool kicking around and I went to the drugstore to see if they had any replacement foam attachments that would fit. The Neutrogena actually fit which was great!

Olay regenerist $18.99
Youthful Essence Tool from my mom $Free
Neutrogena replacement Foams (pk of 2) $9.99

Microdermabrasion Appointment that cancelled on me $80.00

I had a great facial treatment and I feel like I saved some money!

Product Review - Blinc Kiss Me Mascara

I HATE when mascara runs, smears and clumps! I have crazy allergies, I cry at movies (and oprah) and I enjoy my afternoon naps! That's why I LOVE Blincs Kiss Me Mascara and I've been in love with it since 2003!

It creates tiny tubes around your lashes and to remove them you just apply gentle pressure and warm water! The tubes kind of look like spider legs when they come off (don't be freaked out! Your lashes aren't falling out). The great thing is that you need both pressure and water to remove it! Therefore you can can go swimming, just don't rub your eyes!

I used it for all of my Makeup exams at school! If I made a mistake it was so easy to fix it! I would just let it dry on the skin and use a q-tip with warm water to remove it.

This is a great Mascara for people with allergies, it's great for holidays, weddings, graduations and even for watching sad movies and Oprah.

I'm also dieing to try blincs heated lash curler! I'll order it and let you know!

Have a great day!

Humourous but effective! At home wax

The other day I came downstairs to find my mom sitting at the bar with her legs up on stool and newspaper spread out underneath her legs. She had beside her a baking sheet with wax paper on it and her Parissa Warm Wax kit ready to go. I found this all very fun to watch considering I went to school to learn how to do this. I was actually quite surprised how well she was doing, and I only had one little suggestion for her... to stay closer to her leg as she pulled the strip off.

The wax seemed to have a good consistency, the wax strips we're a decent size and after wax oil was great. My mom says my dad uses the oil as an aftershave balm as well.

1. apply the wax in the direction of the hair growth
2. apply the wax strip - firmly
3. pull the strip off (fast) in the direction of the hair growth staying close to your skin
4. keep going in some sort of systematic direction (so you don't miss any hairs) you can apply some baby powder to help if your hair is quite light.
5. Slather the oil on and gently remove any excess wax with a damp cool towel (very soothing).

Follow the directions in the box... as they know their product the best!

My mom thinks she'll be able to do about three lower leg waxes with her kit (Which was $16).

Not a bad deal!

Welcome!

Welcome to my Basic Beauty Blog! I've just transferred over some posts from my www.basicbeauty.ca website and I have quite a few product reviews coming up!

Check back for new posts!

Please feel free to ask me any questions! As well if you have a product you love that you want to share with everyone let me know!

This site is all about sharing with one another and learning how to care for ourselves!

Clean Your Make-up Brushes!

CLEAN your Make-up Brushes! They can be a breeding ground for bacteria if they are not properley cared for.

Spray (or pour) some rubbing alcohol onto a paper towel. Gently swipe your brushes until they swipe clean. Do this once a week to help keep your brushes free from nasty germs.

Once a month you can clean your brushes with shampoo! Rinse them out throughly and lay them flat on a towel to dry. Try not to get the base of the brush wet as some manufacturers use glue to help keep the bristles in place. That is also the reason we lay them flat to dry.

Always apply make-up on a clean face with clean hands, brushes and sponges!

Eyebrow Shape!?

Ever wonder what the "correct" shape for your brows is? I didn't know until my esthetics training so I'm assuming there are others out there that don't know!I've defaced myself to show you how it goes... no laughing!

Grab something straight and hold it from the side of your nose straight past the corner of your eye. This is where your brow should start. From the edge of the nose to the outside edge of the pupil.. this line shows where the high point of your arch should be.From the edge of the nose to the edge of your eye is where your brow should stop.

This is what the beauty world has deemed the best way to shape your brows for the sake of framing the eyes. The thickness is really your preference.I do suggest going to an esthetician if you are going to wax. My rule for picking any beauty professional is that you should like their brows (or hair, feet...etc.). Estheticians have personal preferences and when it comes to brows those preferences are generally reflected! We can't really help it.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Steam!

This is probably the nicest, cheapest, relaxing and effective thing we can do for ourselves at home. You have everything you need at home and the only thing you may want to get is an essential oil to add (I like lavender and Rosemary).

Once a week fill up a bowl with really, really hot water... (boiling is good if your not clumsy) put a towel over your head and enjoy the heat!Steam opens up the pores and naturally cleanses the skin through perspiration and heat.

There are a couple things to remember...

1. Cleanse beforehand!
2. 10 minutes is plenty!
3. It shouldn't be uncomfortably hot
4. watch what you put on your face after! I put on jojoba oil with a drop of rosemary oil. If I steam at night I make sure I have a clean pillowcase and wash my hands.

Enjoy!!

Biosana Foot File

This is the file that I used in Salons for pedicures.

It's great for sloughing off the callus on your heels. I keep mine in the shower and use it every other day. Make sure you put cream on after especially if you have dry heels that are prone to cracking!I've attached the link for Gehwol Online. Any salon that carries Gehwol should have these files as well. Careful at first cause they're sharp!

* Please note that I only suggest this file for callus (hard dead skin)! If your feet are just dry I would get a foot scrub with oils to do once or twice a week.Use cream! Yes there a better creams than others but ANY cream is better than NO cream.
